The teacher assistant position will serve as an assistant to a PreK Lead Teacher in the UWG Bright from the Start Pre-K program in the COE Early Learning Center. To qualify for this position you must be a block four undergraduate student at the University of West Georgia majoring in Elementary Education a dual certification Elementary Education/Special Education. The candidate must commit to a one year term and will carry out their student teaching requirements here in the ELC.
Other duties and responsibilities for this position will be to assist and support the Lead Teacher in planning and providing developmentally appropriate instructional lessons and activities for each child based on the GELDS standards. The candidate will assist in creating and maintaining a positive and conducive classroom learning environment. The candidate will assist the Lead Teacher in gathering and maintaining records and completing appropriate documentation including, but not limited to: lesson planning, student evaluation data, checklists, and student information.
The candidate will perform non-instructional duties as necessary to the program including, but not limited to: maintaining the safety of the Pre-K children, snack preparation and distribution, maintaining daily cleaning/sanitation, and assisting children with hygiene needs. The candidate will assist the Lead Teacher in communicating with families that include newsletters, brightwheel messages, emails, and telephone calls. The candidate will assist with supervision/mentoring of UWG students completing class requirements such as observations and mini lessons.
The candidate will be willing to assist in any other duties as assigned by the lead teacher or director. This is a 10 month hourly pay contract based on the receipt of Georgia Lottery Funded PREK Grant.
