Located 45 miles west of Atlanta, the University of West Georgia is a rapidly growing comprehensive institution serving a diverse faculty and student population. The Department of Special Education offers fully online B.S.Ed., M.A.T., M.Ed., and Ed.S. Programs and has the largest graduate enrollment in Special Education in the state of Georgia. This position supports the department's strategic priorities related to inclusive STEM instruction, data-informed practice, and innovative instructional technologies.
Job SummaryThis is a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Special Education program. We seek a scholar-practitioner with expertise in mathematics instruction, STEM education, and the application of emerging technologies (including AI) to support students with disabilities. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education, contribute to a developing research agenda aligned with inclusive STEM and technology-enhanced instruction, and engage in service to the department, college, and profession.
Faculty are expected to support student success, collaborate with P-12 partners, and maintain an on-campus presence for meetings, events, and instructional responsibilities. This is not a remote position.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in special education, with emphasis on math, STEM, and technology-enhanced instruction
- Develop a program of scholarship related to inclusive mathematics, STEM education, AI, or instructional technology for learners with disabilities
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committees
- Collaborate with P-12 schools and community partners and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
- Complete other duties as assigned
Required
Education:
Earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Special Education or a closely related field (ABD considered).
Required Experience: Minimum of three years of experience teaching students with disabilities in P-12 school settings.
Preferred Qualifications- University-level online teaching experience
- Experience teaching or designing instruction in mathematics and/or STEM for students with disabilities
- Experience using technology-enhanced instruction or AI-supported tools in educational settings
- Evidence of emerging scholarly agenda aligned with inclusive STEM, mathematics education, or educational technology
- Experience with online course design
