Job Summary

Key responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Staff Management (40%)
    • Hire, train, manage, evaluate, and discipline up to 100 undergraduate staff members that include facility assistants, facility supervisors, technicians, and administrative assistants
    • Supervise day‑to‑day staff management to ensure enforcement of all departmental and university policies and procedures throughout the fitness floor, basketball courts, game room, and other Campus Center spaces as needed
    • Facilitate regular staff meetings, in‑services and risk management training to enhance staff services and knowledge.
    • Provide professional development to the undergraduate staff members through the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies
  • Operations Management (35%)
    • Oversee Campus Center daily operations in conjunction with the Coordinator of Facilities and Events to meet the needs of faculty, staff, students, and third‑party constituents
    • Ensure building safety and security, manage cleaning and maintenance functions, equipment check‑out, laundry, facility opening and closing procedures, cash handling, emergency response, and resolving customer service and access issues.
    • Provide evening and weekend coverage as a building manager as needed.
  • Administrative Responsibilities (25%)
    • Assist in the creation and monitoring of two UREC budgets of approximately $300,000, particularly in areas of student wages and operating supplies.
    • Maintain up‑to‑date inventory records and manage upkeep of all equipment and Campus Center supplies to maximize engagement and accessibility to all patrons
    • Attend monthly professional development opportunities (including Student Affairs divisional meetings, University Recreation staff meetings, and graduate assistant development workshops).
    • Obtain and maintain CPR/AED/First Aid instructor certification and certify staff.
Required Qualifications
  • Be fully admitted to a graduate degree program dents admitted provisionally are not eligible for assistantship positions.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Education, Recreation, Sport Management, Business Management or other related fields
  • Be enrolled full‑time in a UWG graduate program during the assistantship period.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all previous and current graduate coursework and remain in good academic standing.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and the community
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of collegiate recreation program experience
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, and attentive to detail
  • Ability to work with a diverse group
  • Career aspirations in recreational sports
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor certification
  • Experience utilizing EMS and/or other recreation management software
Proposed Salary
  • A monthly stipend of $1000.00 per month
  • A tuition waiver, reducing your graduate tuition to $25 per semester plus mandatory fees as long as you are employed in your assistantship.
