Job

Responsibilities
  • Read and prepare for weekly leaders meetings (to help prepare you for the workshop session).
  • Attend the weekly leaders meetings (based on the availability of the new leader’s schedule).
  • Lead a workshop of approximately fifteen students. While in the workshop, the new leader facilitates collaboration among group members.
  • Keep accurate report records of each workshop meeting enrolled in the workshop session.
  • Turn in report forms to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Act as coach and cheerleader as group is molded into problem solving team.
  • Maintain healthy group dynamics and productive group discussion.
  • Check email, text, and phone messages at least once in each 24-hour period.
  • Perform any additional duties specified by the workshop coordinator.
Required Qualifications
  • Have completed the CHEM course for which leadership is sought (or equivalent), with a grade of B or better.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, confidentiality, and commitment to the workshop program.
  • Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average.
  • Superior customer service skills, positive and friendly attitude. Willingness to work cooperatively with others. Ability to handle confidential information with care and ability to prioritize duties.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge, attentiveness to details, and good organizational skills and initiatives.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Ability to maintain focus for 1.5-2 hour at a time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Be able to work effectively with other students.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work cooperatively.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Keep a positive and friendly attitude.

Special Applicant Instructions

New leaders are enrolled in a leadership course, CHEM 2086, Chemistry Leadership Practicum, for 1-hour academic credit. Part of this course consists of training to take place over a two-day period prior to the start of classes. To be a new leader you MUST be present for the complete training. As part of the course, new leaders will be REQUIRED to attend class on certain Fridays.
