Mechanical Designer Technical Documentation (Solid Works) Position Summary
The Mechanical Designer Technical Documentation role combines hands-on CAD design with the development of clear, user-focused technical documentation. This position is responsible for creating and modifying 3D models and drawings, while also producing installation instructions, specification sheets, and technical guides using Solid Works and Solid Works Composer.
The ideal candidate can translate engineering concepts into accurate designs and concise documentation for end users.
Key Responsibilities Design Responsibilities- Create and modify 3D models and assemblies using Solid Works
- Generate detailed drawings, layouts, and bill of materials (BOMs)
- Support engineering with design updates, revisions, and product changes
- Ensure alignment between design outputs and technical documentation
- Develop installation instructions, user guides, and specification sheets using Solid Works Composer or similar tools
- Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation
- Create visual content (exploded views, step-by-step illustrations) to support end users
- Maintain and update documentation libraries, revision history, and release notes
- Work closely with Product Engineering, Technical Support, and Testing teams to validate accuracy
- Participate in project reviews and provide status updates on deliverables
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet documentation deadlines
- Incorporate feedback from stakeholders and ensure final deliverables meet quality standards
- Hands-on experience with Solid Works (3D modeling and drawings)
- Experience with Solid Works Composer or similar CAD-based documentation tools
- Ability to create both mechanical designs and technical documentation
- Strong understanding of mechanical components, assemblies, and design intent
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to simplify technical concepts
High School or better.
