Job Summary

Key responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Maintenance and repair of network infrastructure (copper/fiber cabling) 25%
  • Installation and configuration of networking equipment (switches, APs, routers) 25%
  • Technical support for telecommunications systems (VoIP, etc.) 10%
  • Maintenance of network locations (data closets, server rooms, data center) 10%
  • Network architecture planning and documentation 5%
  • Switch configuration, VLAN setup, and basic routing 5%
  • Creation and upkeep of technical documentation 5%
  • Leadership and guidance of Student Assistants 10%
  • Collaboration with other IT teams on cross-functional projects 5%
Required Qualifications

To be considered for a graduate assistantship at the University of West Georgia (UWG), students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be fully admitted to a graduate degree program ase note:
    Students admitted provisionally are not eligible for assistantship positions.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree (IT-related field) from an accredited institution.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a UWG graduate program during the assistantship period.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all previous and current graduate coursework and remain in good academic standing.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Network Infrastructure background knowledge
  • Licensed driver
Proposed Salary
  • A monthly stipend of $1,000.00 per month
  • A tuition waiver, reducing your semester rate to $25 plus mandatory fees as long as you are employed in your assistantship.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • This position will consist of both desk work and field work.
  • Hours will need to be completed in person, not remotely.
  • Able to lift 40lbs

  • Able to identify colors found within standard network cabling
  • Hold a valid US' driver's license
