Job Summary

Job Title: Drawing 2 Operator

Location: SCUPP
400/700

Shift: C 6:50PM - 7AM

Pay Rate: $27.40 – $29.16

Job Overview

The Drawing 2 Operator is a medium‑skill role that will coordinate, set up, and operate the drawing machine to produce various sizes of copper wire from feeder stock.

General Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs
Primary Job Tasks
  • Responsible for set‑up and operation of multiwire drawing machine
  • Run correct wire sizes and lengths on proper take‑up package as specified on production order
  • Load and unload sets of bobbins/reels whether they are matched lengths or matched sets
  • Make all pay‑off bobbin/reel changes and take‑up reel changes
  • Make high‑quality hot‑welds and cold‑welds in feeder stock to operate machine continuously
  • Maintain a layer wound package
  • Keep a correct inventory of WIP tags daily
  • Setup proper dies
  • Measure wire after the various dies to ensure desired reduction is achieved
  • String up all wires in proper position to ensure a properly constructed take‑up package
  • Monitor, evaluate and adjust machine controls to produce quality wire at specified speeds
  • Check concentration of drawing solution
  • Diagnose problems with feeder stock
  • Coordinate material handling with lift driver for continuous production
  • Measure elongation of each wire on each take‑up package to ensure proper annealing
  • Use non‑deformed take‑up and pay‑off packages
  • String up dies for wire‑size changeovers and breakouts
  • Examine wire to detect potential causes of breakouts
  • Make all gear changes, traverse adjustments and annealer settings
  • Weigh each take‑up package prior to recording production
  • Work under supervision and maintain ongoing communication with the supervisor and peers through verbal instruction and reports
  • Put scrap into the designated scrap bins
Cross‑Training
  • Required to cross‑train equipment within your identified workgroup at your facility
  • Once trained in more complex jobs, may be required to fill the position in the event of absence or vacancy
  • Required to rotate on a set frequency within the workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
Quality
  • Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to guide daily quality activities
  • Perform quality checks as outlined in the process procedures for the machine, and perform minor maintenance when necessary
  • Do not release products until all quality checks have passed
  • Immediately report quality issues to the supervisor or quality manager
Safety
  • Working safely is a condition of employment
  • Observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping
  • Follow all safety procedures and rules
Physical/Environmental Demands
  • Physical activity includes balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking, and sitting
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate control
