Nurse Manager Salaried

The Nurse Manager performs nursing duties following hospital policy/procedure and supervises other nursing personnel who are responsible for patient care. The Nurse Manager assumes 24 hour responsibility for the management of patient care and the personnel who are assigned to that area. This nurse has an in depth knowledge of nursing practice/management and takes responsibility for the development and nurturing of self.

This position will include accountability for maintaining high standards of patient care and nursing practice for the entire unit. The Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating the nursing care provided on the unit utilizing the nursing process.

Education:

Associate Degree or 2 years of college coursework;
Bachelor's degree within 2 years

Experience:

Five years of related experience. Requires broad knowledge of complex systems and procedures.

Licenses and

Certifications:

* Georgia Registered Nurse or Multistate Nursing License

* Healthcare Provider (CPR)

Qualifications:

* B.S. in nursing preferred

* Effective presentation skills.

* Proficient in written and verbal communication skills for documentation and patient, family and staff interactions to convey clear concise instructions and to accept information to understand and make decisions.

* Demonstrates leadership, sound judgement and the ability to organize.

Area of Responsibilities:

Nursing Service Operations:
Efficiently plans and manages nursing service for a patient care unit considering the patient family, staff abilities, physician needs and hospital utilization. Serves as a role model for excellent patient care. Participate in direct patient care activities as a targeted strategy for role modeling or information gathering. Plans, assigns and reviews the work of nursing and support staff. Counsels and evaluates the performance of nursing and support staff.

Evaluates and manages equipment and supplies and recommend necessary purchases. Plans and controls expenditures. Assess the environment and make recommendations to ensure optimal patient comfort and safety. Collaborate with Director of Nursing in determining the fiscal requirements of the specific unit, submit budgetary recommendations, including nursing personnel and patient care materials.

Staff Development:
Demonstrates team values that orient people to care about performance and success of others. Acts as preceptor/mentor for students, new employees and staff. Recognizes and rewards staff's accomplishments. Identifies and plans for staffing consistent with needs of the patient population and budgetary requirements. Coordinates six week time schedules. Collaborates with others to insure provision of in-services. With assistance from the Nurse Director, manages various personnel actions including hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, promotions, counseling and scheduling.

Communication:
Demonstrates ability to understand, communicate, lead, influence others and obtain willing acceptance, consent or action. Uses a high degree of diplomacy, confidentiality and tact. Role models an effective interdisciplinary collaborative approach to patient care through interactions with other departments. Coordinates care with physicians. Maintains effective communication with Nursing Director. Effectively handles situations in a calm, objective manner and coordinates needed change.

Collaborates with and supports other nurse managers, nurse supervisors and nursing colleagues to promote optimal utilization of resources among the various nursing units. Attends and actively participates in hospital wide meetings or sends representative. Conducts monthly staff meetings, uses bulletin boards etc. to inform staff of hospital wide issues and unit performance. Communicates information that impacts staff's job, benefits or employment policies.

Ensuring Quality Care:
Accountable for maintaining quality patient care on unit. Evaluates unit patient care, identifies opportunities for improvement, organizes data collection, and implementation of actions. Coordinates needed change. Works closely with RN III and IV to meet unit goals.…
