This is a mid‑level project position accountable for implementing and maintaining the Company's Safety and Health procedures on a smaller, less complex project. Performs medium to high complexity tasks and may act as a supervisor to other safety and health professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Implements, administers and maintains project Drug and Alcohol Substance Abuse Program.
- Develops and conducts employee safety and health training programs.
- Conducts detailed site safety and health inspections.
- Manages project security contracts, programs and policies.
- Performs record‑keeping/file functions.
- Conducts incident and injury/illness investigations and writes detailed reports.
- Completes all appropriate company safety and health program documents.
- Interfaces with clients and government officials.
- Manages construction contractor safety and health program administration.
- Administers project worker's compensation programs and procedures.
- Acts as on‑site first aid and medical provider when needed.
- Provides supervision, training, development, and performance management of direct reports.
- Develops and implements safety and industrial hygiene in consulting plans and studies.
- Analyzes data generated by safety and health studies, compiling reports with findings and recommendations, including administrative, emergency and PPE controls.
- Supports continuous improvement efforts and change management associated with the implementation of improvements.
Acts as a project manager, responsible for managing a project team. The team composition varies by project.
Minimum Qualifications• 2+ years in a construction environment.
• 4+ years of safety and health experience.
• Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements including background check, drug screen and motor vehicle record search as required by law.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; safety and health certification;
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. - Knowledge of safety and health standards and practices, company substance abuse policies, worker's compensation policies, construction contracting strategies and contract administration, safety and health consultation capabilities, first aid/medical functions, communication skills, computer software for word processing and spreadsheets, report writing, human relations skills, conflict management, supervisory skills, and ability to interface with client and government officials.
First Aid, CPR, Drug Testing Certified, OSHA 500/501, Safety and Health Program Administration, OSHA 10‑hour.
Work Environment / Physical DemandsPhysical Demands:
- Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places and uneven areas.
- Use visual and hearing function normally or with correction.
- Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
- Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls per procedure.
- Perform repetitive movements.
- May work above 5‑foot height.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
- Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outdoor conditions.
Work Environment:
- Typical construction site environment with cramped work spaces and awkward positions.
- Very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures; exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.
- Extremely bright or low lighting conditions.
- Exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
- Work around hazardous equipment.
