Job Summary

The Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) supports faculty-led research initiatives within the Graduate Nursing Program. This role involves literature review, data collection and analysis, scholarly writing, project coordination, and administrative support. The GRA will work collaboratively with faculty and research teams to advance nursing scholarship and contribute to academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities and Time Allocation

I. Literature Review and Evidence Appraisal (20%)

  • Conduct comprehensive literature searches using databases (e.g., CINAHL, Pub Med, PsycINFO).
  • Summarize and synthesize literature for research, grants, or publications.
  • Create annotated bibliographies or evidence tables.
  • Organize sources using citation management tools (e.g., Zotero, End Note).

II. Research Project Support (15%)

  • Assist with IRB applications and amendments.
  • Collect and organize informed consent documents.
  • Schedule and communicate with research participants.
  • Maintain secure and accurate research records.

III. Data Management and Analysis (20%)

  • Support data collection (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups).
  • Transcribe qualitative data and prepare transcripts.
  • Enter and clean quantitative data using Excel, REDCap, SPSS, NVivo, or R.
  • Create visualizations for presentations or manuscripts.

IV. Scholarly Writing and Dissemination (15%)

  • Draft or edit manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations.
  • Assist with conference preparation and submission processes.
  • Format documents to meet journal guidelines.

V. Project Coordination and Communication (10%)

  • Attend and document research team meetings.
  • Manage timelines and task lists using tools like Trello or MS Planner.
  • Prepare progress updates for faculty investigators.

VI. Administrative and Academic Support (10%)

  • Prepare documentation for grants, reports, or accreditation.
  • Organize digital files with consistent naming and version control.
  • Coordinate guest speakers or faculty development events.

VII. Teaching-Related Research Support (if applicable) (5%)

  • Collect classroom data for educational research.
  • Evaluate instructional tools (e.g., rubrics, simulations).
  • Support SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) projects.

VIII. Professional Development (Optional) (5%)

  • Participate in research seminars or workshops.
  • Maintain reflective logs or portfolios.
  • Mentor junior students interested in research.
Required Qualifications
  • Be fully admitted to a graduate degree program e:
    Students admitted provisionally are not eligible for assistantship positions.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a UWG graduate program during the assistantship period.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all previous and current graduate coursework and remain in good academic standing.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN and licensure as a RN
  • Enrollment in a graduate nursing program.
  • Strong academic writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with research databases and citation tools.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software is preferred.
Proposed Salary
  • A monthly stipend of $1,000.00 per month
  • A tuition waiver, reducing your semester rate to $25 plus mandatory fees as long as you are employed in your assistantship.
