Job Summary

UWG Debate Graduate Program Assistant:

  • 35% Participate in preparation of and coaching of UWG
    ¿ s Policy Debate team including organizing research assignments for the students, researching and preparing debate information, maintaining debate files, and overseeing practice debates and speeches.
  • 35% Regularly attend interscholastic competitions, offer on-the ground advice related to argumentation strategy, and fulfill associated judging obligations.
  • 15% Participate in team recruiting including attendance at high school tournaments, outreach events, and college fairs, and help develop digital and social media communications and content to raise the profile of the program.
  • 10% Participate in any summer programming including pre-program preparation of research and debate materials, our pre-season debate workshop, and participation in the NDT-CEDA topic selection process.
  • 5% Assist in development and execution of inclusive programming that raises the profile of UWG Debate including public debates, debate watch parties, tournaments, and USG Chancellor
    ¿ s Cup, etc.
Required Qualifications
  • Be fully admitted to a graduate degree program at UWG.
  • Please note:

    Students admitted provisionally are not eligible for assistantship positions.
  • Hold a Bachelor
    ¿ s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a UWG graduate program during the assistantship period.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all previous and current graduate coursework and remain in good academic standing.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States.
  • Must be a licensed driver
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enrolled in SCFM Digital and Social Media Communication, M.S.
  • Competitive debate or coaching experience on the National Debate Tournament Circuit.
Proposed Salary
  • A monthly stipend of $1,000.00 per month
  • A tuition waiver, reducing your semester rate to $25 plus mandatory fees as long as you are employed in your assistantship.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Applicants must be able to pass a driving test with the University and will be required to travel with the team, including being the primary driver on some travel occasions.
  • Applicants must be able to participate in weekend debate tournaments as a coach which includes 12-14 hour work days.
  • You will work closely with students of the UWG Debate program and often travel with members of the team.
  • The Graduate Assistant reports to the Head Coach of UWG Debate and serves at the discretion of the Director and Head Coach.
  • The Graduate Assistant is required to follow all University and Team policies during their time with UWG Debate.
