Security Officer I – Plant Wansley, Carrollton, GA

Day (6 AM – 6 PM) and Night (6 PM – 6 AM) positions. Rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends, are required.

The Security Officer protects Georgia Power employees, contractors, visitors and property by enforcing plant security policies, responding to alarms and security requests, and processing access authorization for personnel visiting Plant Wansley.

• Protect employees, contractors, visitors and property.
• Enforce plant security policies, procedures and applicable laws.
• Respond promptly to alarms and security requests.
• Process personnel for access authorization in accordance with established procedures.
• Interpret procedures and regulations and make decisions regarding plant access control.

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

• Valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Military, law‑enforcement, corrections, or armed security experience with a strong customer‑service background (preferred).
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system desired.
• Computer proficiency:
  Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Fluency in Spanish a plus.

• Learn and enforce plant security policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of local, state and federal criminal laws and their application to private security.
• Knowledge of power plant operations.
• Administer basic first aid/CPR.
• Strong oral and written communication, problem‑solving, decision‑making, and negotiation skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Customer‑service oriented interpersonal skills.
• Work well with others in a team environment.
• Operate multiple electronic security systems simultaneously.
• Direct and control traffic.
• Handle crisis situations, threat alerts and communicate with outside agencies.
• Persuade, motivate and influence others.
• Prioritize tasks and work independently.
• Adapt to fast‑paced environments with changing priorities.
• Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Work rotating shifts and be flexible to schedule changes.

• Minimum age 21 years.
• Meet all local, state and federal firearm requirements.
• Obtain an Armed Security Officer License issued by the State Board of Private Detectives and Security Agencies.
• Pass a background check and state‑mandated private security training.
• Complete company psychological test, physical test, background investigation and drug test.
• Qualify for firearm use and re‑qualify twice annually with a semiautomatic pistol and pump‑action shotgun (minimum 80% score).
• Undergo O.C. pepper spray training.
• Work rotating shifts: days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
• Operate in severe weather conditions.
• Drive fleet vehicle: minimum one year of verifiable driving experience, no revocation of driving privileges in the past 36 months, no major traffic violations in the past 12 months, and consent to continuous monitoring of motor‑vehicle record.

• Lift and carry 40 lbs (3–4 hours per shift).
• Stand, sit, walk, drive and operate in specified time limits per shift.
• Climb up to 2 hours per shift (including 125 stairs).
• Other tasks: balance, bend, kneel, crouch, push, pull, squat, reach, work alone or with both hands, fine manipulation, keyboarding, work at heights, read control devices, use binocular vision, hear low volume, tolerate temperature, dust, gases, chemicals, and obtain necessary licenses and qualifications.

• Run 100 yards with standard gear within 90 seconds.
• Climb 35 feet of stairs with standard gear within 60 seconds.
• Lift 35 lbs and carry 50 yards with standard gear within 90 seconds.
• Maneuver through 24‑inch opening with standard gear.

This position is classified as “Safety Sensitive.” Relevant preemployment screening will be conducted.
