The Lead Accountant is responsible for Southland’s financial recordkeeping, including recording financial transactions, managing accounts and account reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position also provides a higher level of customer service to both internal departments and external customers.

• Assist the Accounting Manager to oversee and monitor daily operations of assigned areas, ensuring accuracy and integrity of accounting systems and internal controls.
• Maintain knowledge of best practices, current and proposed legislation and regulation; recommend changes to accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
• Work with the accounting manager on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
• Lead departmental projects, including the change/implementation of new policies and procedures.
• Complete month‑end and fiscal year‑end financial reports.
• Review and complete analysis of complex accounting issues.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent preferred.
• 7+ years of accounting experience preferred.
• Advanced accounting knowledge.
• Excellent organization skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate across all levels.
• Must be analytical, innovative, and decisive; able to analyze and resolve complex issues.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
• Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc. required.
• Process orientation with a focus on quality and efficiency.
• Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
