The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving new business acquisition while owning the full commercial lifecycle of assigned customer relationships. This role identifies, qualifies, and secures new customers aligned with Swiss American CDMO’s strategic growth priorities, leads commercial onboarding, and develops long‑term partnerships that grow over time through both new customer acquisition, expanding business within existing accounts, and broadening relationships across customer organizations.
The Business Development Manager serves as the primary commercial lead from initial engagement through contract execution and into sustained account growth. Performance in this role is primarily measured by the ability to secure new customers and to increase revenue within existing accounts through strategic relationship development and expansion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Strategic Prospecting & New Business Acquisition
- Identify and proactively prospect targeted personal care, OTC, and topical medical device companies aligned with defined commercial strategy and growth priorities
- Build and execute structured outreach plans utilizing trade shows, industry networking, referrals, inbound leads, and proactive prospecting
- Qualify opportunities through rigorous assessment of technical requirements, commercial viability, financial potential, and long‑term strategic fit
- Ensure alignment between prospective customer needs and Swiss American CDMO capabilities prior to advancing opportunities
- Lead the full sales lifecycle including discovery, solution development, internal alignment, proposal preparation, negotiation, and contract execution
- Maintain disciplined CRM documentation, pipeline management, and forecasting accuracy
- Meet or exceed defined new business acquisition targets
- Industry Presence & Network Development
- Build and maintain an active professional network within personal care, OTC, medical device, and adjacent industries
- Represent Swiss American CDMO at trade shows, industry conferences, and customer locations to increase visibility and generate qualified opportunities
- Cultivate relationships with key decision‑makers, influencers, and industry stakeholders to create sustained opportunity flow
- Increase awareness of Swiss American CDMO’s differentiated capabilities and value proposition
- Commercial Leadership, Relationship Ownership & Pricing Strategy
- Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for assigned customers, maintaining strong, trust‑based relationships at both operational and executive levels
- Lead contract negotiations, initial pricing strategy, and ongoing pricing reviews in alignment with company margin objectives
- Conduct regular business reviews with customers to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, address risks, and align on future growth priorities
- Proactively engage customers in ongoing commercial and strategic discussions to understand evolving needs and position Swiss American CDMO for expanded partnership
- Provide regular updates to Commercial and Executive Leadership on customer health, growth opportunities, risks, and strategic developments
- Commercial Onboarding & Cross‑Functional Leadership
- Lead commercial onboarding for newly awarded customers, ensuring alignment of expectations, scope, timelines, and commercial terms
- Facilitate structured collaboration with Research, Innovation & Development (RID), Client Services, Operations, Quality, and Marketing teams
- Maintain commercial ownership during onboarding to ensure successful transition from opportunity to active program
- Retain responsibility for commercial growth while partnering with Client Services Managers who maintain day‑to‑day operational relationship management
- Account Growth & Strategic Expansion
- Develop and execute strategic account plans to drive long‑term revenue growth and diversification
- Identify and pursue opportunities to expand business within existing customers, including new programs, categories, and business units
