Primary
Purpose:
To provide the student an opportunity to achieve and enhance his/her self-esteem in order to maximize his/her social, personal, and academic development.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
* Minimum of a master's degree.
* A valid school counseling certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the State Board for Educator Certification for this position.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
* Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
* Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
* Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
Preferred Experience:
* At least two years of teaching experience.
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
* Develop the counseling program in relation to the needs of the student/school being served.
* Provide crisis counseling.
* Respect confidentiality.
* Provide referrals to appropriate agencies.
* Work with students on an individual basis to increase personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
* Work with children in small groups to target similar problems/interests.
* Provide information concerning developmental guidance to enhance students' optimum growth.
* Confer with parents/staff when necessary.
* Participate in Admissions, Reviews, and Dismissals (ARDs) as needed.
* Coordinate and interpret results of standardized tests to students, parents, and professional staff.
* Transfer information to appropriate sources through professional growth
* Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee.
