Job Title: Makaton Tutor
Location: Rubery
Salary: £20 – £25 per hour (depending on experience)
Job Type: Flexible (Part-time / Full-time), Monday–Friday
Connex Education Partnership provides tailored one-to-one tuition and specialist support for children who are unable to attend school, supporting learners in environments that best meet their individual needs, most commonly within the family home.
The RoleWe are seeking an experienced and compassionate Makaton Tutor to join our growing home tuition team.
You will provide personalised one-to-one Makaton support for pupils across the South Birmingham area who may present with SEN needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) challenges, EHCPs, and additional communication needs. The role focuses on developing communication skills, building confidence, and supporting pupils to engage with learning and everyday interactions through structured, creative, and nurturing approaches.
WorkingPattern
- Monday to Friday availability
- Minimum 2 hours per day per pupil (additional hours available)
- Opportunities across South Birmingham
- Deliver engaging one-to-one Makaton sessions tailored to individual communication needs and EHCP outcomes
- Use Makaton signs and symbols to support communication, understanding, and emotional expression
- Adapt teaching approaches to support pupils with SEN and additional communication needs
- Build positive relationships with pupils and families
- Support pupils to develop confidence, independence, and social interaction skills
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to parents and professionals
- Create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment
- Experience teaching or tutoring using Makaton is essential
- Makaton qualification/training preferred
- Experience supporting learners with SEN, autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH, or additional needs
- A patient, adaptable, and nurturing approach
- Experience working in schools, alternative provisions, or home tuition settings is desirable
- Driving preferred but not essential
- Flexible working to suit your schedule
