Summary of PositionAs Power Applications Engineer, you will work on power electronic projects with a strong focus on magnetic component design. You will collaborate with sales and engineering teams to understand customer needs, design, develop, and test electronic components and systems in Dallas, Carrollton. You will work with semiconductor companies to create reference designs for customized magnetic products and standard Bourns components such as inductors, diodes, resistors, and MOVs.
Dutiesand Accountabilities
- Design custom magnetics (inductors, transformers, EMI chokes).
- Prepare engineering specifications.
- Design electronic circuits and PCBs for test and evaluation of prototype magnetics.
- Test prototype magnetics.
- Collaborate with application engineering teams in semiconductor companies designing application boards that require magnetic components.
- Cooperate with engineering teams in customers during custom design projects, summarizing calculations and simulations in PowerPoint presentations and presenting over Microsoft Teams.
- Work with design engineers in other manufacturing locations to release new products.
- Contribute to the development of product specifications and requirements.
- RELATIONSHIP – Engineering, Marketing, and Laboratory Technicians in Bourns USA.
- RELATIONSHIP – Sales Force and FAE’s USA.
- RELATIONSHIP – PLM, and GM.
- RELATIONSHIP – Production sites in Europe, Mexico, and Asia.
Job Requirements Education
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Training and Experience- More than 4 years’ experience in power electronics (industry or academia).
- Proficient in electronic design software such as Altium or similar.
- Experience with ANSYS Maxwell, MATLAB would be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of electronic components and systems.
- Familiarity with standard electronic lab equipment.
Must be a capable motivator and possess the ability to effectively communicate, present, and recommend ideas and solutions. Success comes from the ability to develop strong relationships with the engineering group internally and with our customers.
CommunicationsExcellent English required to communicate instructions and present ideas, concepts, and solutions to all levels of employees and customers. Any other language is an asset. Excellent written skills in English required to issue instructions and present ideas, concepts, and solutions via letters, memos, graphs, charts, etc.
Scheduling and Planning- Project Management.
- Reporting on Project Progress.
Lab operators will take care of sample building and testing. Some hands‑on experience of soldering and electronic test equipment would be of benefit.
Working EnvironmentThe working environment is office based. There will be some work with the lab operators in the sample and test laboratory. A degree of travel for a few days per month can be expected.

Salary Range$78,000 – $112,000
