Primary
Purpose:
Serves as the district's lead Spanish-language communications specialist and facilitates requests directed to Translation & Interpretation Services (TIS) for all foreign language needs. Collaborates with district staff and external vendors to provide translation and interpretation services for all Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
* Professional proficiency in English and Spanish required.
* Protocol and code of ethics certification of translation and interpretation.
* Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication (written, oral) skills.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
* Exceptional bilingual proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish using standard conventions.
* Demonstrated ability to translate and interpret accurately and objectively in educational and legal contexts.
* Strong copyediting and proofreading skills in both languages.
* Ability to transcreate messaging to ensure cultural relevance and audience engagement.
* Experience developing content for traditional and digital communication platforms.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, organize and facilitate language needs, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
* Ability to facilitate, evaluate, and negotiate services between district and vendors.
* Ability to manage a budget.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, collaboration, and presentation skills.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
* Knowledge of AP Style in English and equivalent Spanish editorial standards preferred.
Experience:
* At least three (3) years of experience in translation and interpretation services in educational and/or professional settings.
* Administrative experience in program management.
* Prior experience translating/interpreting in a school district environment preferred.
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management:
1. Lead the translation and transcreation of district communications through in-house services and securing agencies/vendors to ensure Spanish-language messaging accurately reflects the intent, tone, and brand standards of English content.
2. Translate, adapt, proofread, and edit a wide range of materials, including crisis communication, marketing collateral, district wide campaigns, district handbooks and/or guides, social media posts, and other documents as needed.
3. Provide in-house and/or vendor-secured interpretation services for meetings, workshops, district events, and other activities as requested.
4. Collaborate with district staff to support marketing efforts, district initiatives, special projects, and community engagement.
5. Execute instructional training for the district, establish and maintain district translation and interpretation standards and style guide, and create translation and interpretation request and booking process for CFBISD.
6. Train campus- and department-based translators and interpreters regarding the aspects, ethics, and legalities of translation and interpretation, the CFBISD translation and interpretation style guide, and effective and efficient language access procedures.
7. Perform quality assurance checks to ensure translations meet district standards for accuracy, consistency, cultural awareness, and legal compliance.
8. Promote TIS services to campuses and departments.
9. Initiate and maintain communication between TIS and vendors, agencies, and independent interpreters/facilitators.
10. Research, contact and meet with vendors and agencies for new contract bids, understand service offerings and suitability for CFBISD.
11. Supervise and evaluate performance of agency and vendor services, including in-person observations while on campus assignments.
12. Support all aspects of agencies and freelance vendors during their contracted RFP bid time.
13. Work in collaboration with the Purchasing Department to submit new contract bids to agencies and vendors for renewal of services.
14. Monitor the balance of accounts and spending on all assignments.
15. Organize, track, archive and report all completed TIS services.
16. Develop and direct process for language need evaluation and implement change based on findings.
17. Prepare utilization, service and trend reports and charts of monthly, biannual and annual services.
18. Other duties assigned by district administration.
