Logistics Regional Safety Manager
The role of a Logistics Regional Safety Manager for Pratt Logistics, LLC is multifaceted and vital to the success of operation. A Regional Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that drivers are well trained, equipment is compliant, and all operations comply with local and federal regulations. By understanding the various aspects of fleet safety and utilizing the right tools and resources, the Logistics Regional Safety Manager can ensure a safe environment for everyone on the roadway, protecting Pratt's body of staff, assets and reputation.
Responsibilities include enforcing and managing policies in place, policy development and education, conducting periodic safety inspections, recording all accidents and incidents, obtaining accident police reports and other documentation as required by DOT, analyzing accident accruals and providing support with receiving, relaying estimates, and final invoices to Accounting, coordinating post-accident inspections and investigations, coordinating post-accident drug and alcohol screening, documenting preservation and discovery pertaining to litigation, injury response, reporting and investigation, workers compensation claims, recording OSHA 300 logs, regulatory compliance, safety training, quarterly driver meetings, monitoring safety performance, vehicle maintenance inspections, analyzing and identifying areas of improvement in accidents, inspections, and citations and reporting data to operations and the Director of Safety, risk assessment, educating operations of any new compliance and DOT regulation changes, reviewing safety analytics, videos and coaching/developing drivers, supporting Smith System Training, dataQ all non-preventable accidents and incorrect violations, maintaining DOT accident register, periodic claims review with Travelers rep, aging files and subrogation, facilitating DOT visits to plants, DOT roadside inspections, coaching and development, PPE audits, locations and drivers, supporting PPE inventory with locations, ride along observation with drivers, supporting safety with issues for region pertaining to driver fitness, managing technology proficiency regarding Safety Analytics, Sentix, Instinct, and Foley, participating in weekly new hire orientation, pilot programs and various technology, implementing and managing safety committees for drivers and dispatchers, issuing training modules to drivers using Sentix, supporting other regions as well as the safety department staff when on vacations and out of office, and participating as member of Safety Advisory Board Education and/or Work.
Experience requirements include working knowledge of CFR 29 and CFR 49, 5 years' experience in the transportation industry in a safety role, knowledge of all applicable safety rules and regulations – DOT, DMV, FMCSA, and OSHA, bachelor's degree, excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook), ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service, ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices, special projects, frequent travel required to locations in the region on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, occasional travel to other regions as needed, training, help facilitate/evaluate training of new drivers, dispatchers, and logistic managers as needed, coaching/corrective actions, works with site managers, HR, and dispatchers regarding any driver coaching or corrective actions that are needed.
Physical requirements include being frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles when in the field or locations, ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions, employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear, employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms, employee is occasionally required to sit, employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 to 30 pounds, vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
