Assistant Supervisor, Production
Position Summary:
The Production Assistant Supervisor has the responsibility and accountability for hands-on leadership of teams or a team within a production department in normal operating circumstances. As a frontline leader, the role is instrumental in achieving daily production targets in a safe manner whilst encouraging and building their employees to perform to the highest standards. Performs general assembly of fabricated mechanical parts, fabric parts, pieces, or products using a variety of tools and equipment according to required specification in a specific area of production line in manufacturing.
This role also performs a wide variety of duties to train, assign work, and provide hands-on direction, instruction, and guidance to employees.
Description of
Essential Job Functions:
- Communicate daily with employees and supervisor.
- Develop a team culture to achieve specification, yield, compliance, health and safety, and production targets.
- Assign work, and provide instruction and guidance on proper procedures, etc., to employees.
- Train and coach employees to understand what specifications, yields, compliance, health and safety, and production targets mean and how they relate to the employee's work.
- Train personal in the routine and preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Monitor production and re-assign workers as necessary to meet production and shipping schedules.
- Communicate with other departments/teams clearly and regularly regarding product delivery into the department to ensure efficient production and minimal waste.
- Make certain employees are following work instructions and procedures, and using quality check lists, to perform their jobs safely, efficiently, and with acceptable (or better) quality.
- Engage employees in active problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Liaise closely with departmental quality staff to monitor that production is being completed within clear safety and quality parameters.
- Ensure all production machinery or work is performed or operated by a competent trained team member, operated in a safe manner and adhering to health and safety and work rules.
- Advise supervisor of problems.
- Liaise closely with departmental maintenance staff to ensure machinery breakdowns are attended to in a timely manner and maintenance is completed in a safe manner.
- Monitor employee attendance, performance, or behavior, and notify supervisor of situations requiring follow-up corrective action.
- Check work, parts orders, and inventory of components and parts to determine items that can be assembled.
- Prepare work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, schematic drawing, and parts lists.
- Assist supervisor with organizing daily production requirements and clearly communicating the requirements to the employees at the start of every shift.
- Ensure all components for the next day's work are ready.
- Ensure understanding of all applicable product specifications and are able to communicate/show employees how the product should be processed or produced (i.e., assembled, painted, welded, etc.).
- Perform all assembly and related operations direct labor work as required for maintaining production.
- Monitor the daily production schedule and ensure all work and finished product have met specifications and standards (customer, technical, quality), yield, and production targets.
- When product quality falls outside of acceptable limits as advised by quality staff, actively address problem areas and support the production teams to bring production and/or processing under control.
- Resolve assembly problems by verification of wiring to schematic drawing, and modification of drawings, with a qualified engineer.
- Keep fixtures, tools, and/or equipment operational and eliminate production delays by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Notify supervisor of needed repairs and recommend new equipment.
- Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
