Position Summary:

The Component Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and monitoring inventory levels for components used in manufacturing. The Component Buyer will review and analyze MRP, purchase requisitions, invoice/price discrepancies, and request/review quotations. Experience in planning, data analysis, and computer literacy is required. The candidate will analyze, plan, direct, coordinate, and execute activities of designated projects to ensure that goals or objectives of the project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters, by performing the following duties personally or through assigned designees.

The role requires hands‑on technical competency with high levels of customer/supplier interaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with manufacturing plant personnel to qualify new packaging on production lines.
  • Knowledge of cosmetics packaging materials and manufacturing to include extrusion and injection blow molding, injection molding, and print technologies.
  • Confers with project team members to discuss technical advice and to resolve problems.
  • Evaluate technical drawings for accuracy, design intent and fit for use.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in handling the interpretations of blueprints and understand the dimensional tolerances to stack‑up various component types.
  • Coordinates project activities to ensure compliance with governing bodies.
  • Works directly with the Account Manager(s) and designees of external project group as necessary.
  • Creates and issues accurate, complete Purchase Orders in a timely manner by analyzing MRP in Deacom.
  • Authorizes payment of invoices or return of merchandise within scope of authority.
  • Interviews and confers with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Expedites orders and requests as needed.
  • Work directly with Planners to ensure on time delivery of components.
  • Manages MRP and Open Purchase Order Reports to identify any delays in the planning schedule; will notify planners and CSMs of any expected delays.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine sources of trouble and take corrective action.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain roles.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Strong understanding of scientific and technical concepts. Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, and draw sound conclusions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and other departments.
  • Proficiency in advanced mathematical concepts, including data analysis, statistical analysis, and financial calculations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project), and ERP systems.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions based on data analysis.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship‑building skills to effectively manage supplier relationships.
  • Understanding of quality control principles and ability to ensure the quality of purchased components.
