PURPOSE

Under direct supervision, the Maintenance Technician I, is an entry level position and is responsible maintaining and servicing our company's fleet of vehicles and equipment. You will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring the safety and reliability of our vehicles. This position requires a skilled individual with a strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Performs duties under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and Leads.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) services and multi-point safety inspections on diverse fleet, including tractors, trailers (truss roll-off, flatbed, and gooseneck), straight trucks (including demountable boxes), and light-duty gas & diesel vehicles, and forklifts including trailer-mounted lifts
  • Conduct routine maintenance on a variety of vehicles, including trucks, vans, and specialized equipment. Perform oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and other preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Execute scheduled oil, filter, and fluid changes in accordance with maintenance schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Lubricate chassis components, fifth wheels, and other moving parts to maintain proper performance and minimize wear.
  • Check, adjust, and maintain tire pressures and tread depths to meet operational and safety requirements.
  • Conduct safety inspections to identify and address potential hazards or compliance issues. Ensure vehicles meet safety and emissions standards.
  • Assist with keeping maintenance records updated by completing entire PM sheet and clocking on and off repair orders and jobs to accurately record time. Inform Lead Tech, Supervisor, or Manager of any shortages in shop supplies or parts inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed, including parts used, labor hours, and equipment condition. Complete service reports and maintenance logs.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergencies promptly. Perform on-site repairs.
  • Keep tools and equipment in good working condition and report any issues or needs for replacement. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Adhere to all company policies and safety regulations. Stay up to date with industry standards and best practices for fleet maintenance.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent to general education degree (GED)
  • 1 – 2 years of related experience including vocational training in automotive, or diesel mechanics preferred
  • Or 2-3 years equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of relevant certifications, such as ASE or equivalent is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license, adhere to DOT regulations, CDL Commercial is a plus

  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair complex issues. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
