Job Description PURPOSEThe Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of PCC Structurals Carson City, including ownership of the general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, internal controls, inventory accounting, and standard cost activities. This position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the plant's financial records in accordance with GAAP and PCC policies.
As a key business partner and the primary backup to the Plant Controller, the Accounting Manager works closely with operations and plant leadership to understand financial and operational performance, identify risks and opportunities, and provide meaningful financial analysis to support business decisions. This role provides leadership within the accounting function and assumes Plant Controller responsibilities as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES General Ledger & Financial Close- Own and maintain the integrity of the plant's general ledger and underlying financial records.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities, ensuring accurate and timely completion of required deliverables.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and other close-related transactions.
- Review balance sheet accounts and ensure reconciling items are identified, researched, and resolved timely.
- Ensure financial transactions are properly recorded, classified, supported, and maintained in accordance with GAAP and PCC accounting policies.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, schedules, and reporting packages.
- Investigate unusual transactions, account activity, and financial variances and ensure appropriate resolution.
- Maintain appropriate accounting documentation and supporting records to ensure financial information remains accurate and audit-ready.
- Prepare and analyze plant financial results, including revenue, cost of sales, gross margin, operating expenses, EBIT, and working capital.
- Analyze actual financial performance against budget, forecast, prior periods, and operational expectations.
- Identify significant financial trends, risks, opportunities, and variances and communicate findings to the Plant Controller and leadership team.
- Prepare clear and concise financial analyses supporting business decisions and operational initiatives.
- Support development of forecasts, annual operating plans, and long-range financial planning.
- Assist leadership in understanding the financial impact of operational and business decisions.
- Maintain the integrity of the plant's standard cost system and support annual standard cost development and updates.
- Analyze manufacturing variances, including labor, overhead absorption, material usage, scrap, rework, and production efficiency.
- Partner with Operations, Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality to understand manufacturing performance and financial impacts.
- Oversee accounting activities related to inventory, including reconciliations, reserves, cycle counts, and physical inventories.
- Analyze inventory trends, excess and obsolete inventory, and working capital opportunities.
- Support evaluation of cost reduction, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure manufacturing transactions and inventory movements are accurately reflected in financial records.
- Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure compliance with PCC policies and SOX requirements.
- Perform and review assigned internal controls and ensure required documentation is complete and maintained.
- Identify control deficiencies, financial risks, and process weaknesses and drive timely corrective actions.
- Support internal and external audits and coordinate preparation of requested financial records and supporting documentation.
- Ensure accounting processes and financial records remain organized and audit-ready.
- Support continuous improvement of accounting procedures, controls, and financial processes.
- Partner with the Plant Controller, General Manager, and leadership team to provide financial analysis and operational insight across the business.
