Overview
This is a FLSA non-exempt, part-time position, not to exceed 1,039 work hours in any fiscal year, located at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. Employees in this position perform a variety of clerical duties, including customer service, data entry and retrieval, filing, typing and records storage; performs related duties as required. Must be able to work 10 to 20 hours per week, which may include weekends.
Responsibilities- Greet and assist visitors with routine matters.
- Answer telephone, route calls, and take and relay messages.
- Respond to requests for information related to the specific unit of assignment.
- Type, proofread, and distribute correspondence, forms and reports.
- Enter and retrieve information from an automated data system.
- Maintain and update filing and/or records systems, mailing lists, and other specialized record keeping information.
- Maintain and monitor office and/or specialized supplies and related equipment.
- Review all work for accuracy and confidentiality of information.
- Photocopy, collate, and distribute reports and documents.
- Photograph recorded documents onto microfilm.
- Sort and disseminate mail to appropriate staff and office.
- Operate a variety of office equipment, such as computers, fax, copier, sorter, folding machine, postage machine, etc.
- Serve and/or pick up subpoenas, summons, eviction notices, lockout orders and other documents as needed in person and by telephone.
- Deliver proofs of service to District/Justice Courts.
Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical qualification is graduation from high school or the equivalent, supplemented by specialized clerical training and two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience.
Required Certifications, Licenses, and Registration: All required licenses and certificates must be maintained in active status without suspension or revocation throughout employment.

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and ability to operate standard office equipment.
The employee will report to the Department Head for daily duties.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. The work involves standing, walking, sitting, driving, using hands, reaching, talking and hearing. Occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WorkingEnvironment
Office and field environment; travel between sites; extensive public contact; exposure to computer screens; exposure to traffic and external environments when traveling. The position primarily resides in an office environment with extended sitting and frequent use of computers and standard office equipment. Noise level is usually quiet.
Conditions of Employment- Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining all required licenses and certificates in active status.
- Employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies or perform other duties as assigned in an incident or emergency.
- New employees may be required to submit to fingerprint-based background checks and a drug screen (costs $36.50). Employment is contingent upon passing.
