Position Overview

Anticipated start date of August 3, 2026. This is a full-time, FLSA non‑exempt position with the Carson City Justice/Municipal Court.
Under general supervision, attends court sessions and assists the Court Operations Supervisor with assigning, directing and reviewing the work of other Court support staff; provides difficult, complex, technical, specialized and/or confidential legal office support to court offices.

Responsibilities- Attend court, may administer oaths, swear in juries and witnesses, maintains audio, video and manual records of actions taken, prepares minute orders and processes court follow‑up.
- Assists the Court Operations Supervisor in providing direction, training and review of office support staff. Organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work.
- Provides input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary and other personnel matters; may counsel employees as required.
- Performs difficult, complex, technical and/or specialized confidential Court support work, which may require the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills, or knowledge of detailed or specialized activities.
- Compiles data from multiple sources to complete and process legal forms, documents and reports in accordance with established procedures.
- Types correspondence, reports, forms and specialized documents from drafts, notes, court recording system, or brief instructions. May compose standard correspondence from brief instructions; may enter and retrieve information from a computer system.
- May receive and process fees, fines or other monies; prepares receipts and balances money received.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
- Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public Court and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

Education and ExperienceEquivalent to a High School Diploma or GED AND four (4) years of experience in providing office support to a court or legal office or similar environment which required the use of legal terminology and the processing of legal documents; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

- Basic supervisory principles and practices.
- Computer applications related to the work.
- Accepting monies and making accurate arithmetic calculations.
- Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
- Policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to the court.
- Legal and court terminology.
- Office administrative practices and procedures.
- Business letter writing and the standard format for typed materials.
- Record keeping principles and practices.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio‑economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
Skill in:
