The General Services Unit of the Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is seeking a diverse pool of qualified applicants for the position of Mail Clerk within the Administrative Division. The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical and administrative support to the Nevada Legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods.
The General Services Unit provides logistical support to the legislators, legislative staff and LCB staff. This is a temporary, full-time position located in Carson City, Nevada.

Description:
Under the general supervision of the General Services Manager, the Mail Clerk will assist legislators, legislative staff and LCB staff with the processing, sorting and distribution of mail. Responsibilities of the Mail Clerk may include, without limitation:
- Receiving, identifying and sorting incoming mail and delivering mail to the houses and to all divisions and units of the LCB;
- Ensuring consistent and timely mail deliveries between LCB buildings, as well as to other state agencies and businesses as directed;
- Integrating updated materials into existing publications such as the Nevada Revised Statutes, criminal law manuals, children and family law manuals and the Nevada Administrative Code;
- Handling shipping and receiving requests, including, without limitation, postage processing and package delivery and pick up to and from the houses and the divisions and units of the LCB;
- Using an x-ray machine to inspect mail and identify possible threats;
- Maintaining records such as shipping logs, publication invoices and purchase orders;
- Monitoring inventory of supplies and materials to support daily operations;
- Assembling and moving office furniture, equipment and other office items, as needed;
- Assisting with maintenance and repair of equipment to ensure functionality and safety;
- Providing effective backup support to team members and other units, as needed; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
The Mail Clerk will be selected with special preference given to the candidate's training, experience and aptitude in the fields of warehouse services and/or mail processing. A qualified candidate must have: (1) a valid driver's license; (2) a high school diploma/GED; and (3) 6 months of work experience. Previous experience in warehouse services and/or mail processing is preferred.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- The ability to prioritize tasks, including, without limitation, tracking and organizing records through computer databases and/or spreadsheets;
- Experience processing and sorting mail and other documents, including time-sensitive and confidential items;
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, once trained, and communicate effectively;
- The ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds, without assistance, employing proper safety techniques;
- The ability to effectively read and interpret occasionally complex documents and instructions; and
- The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships, resolve problems and perform with a high level of professionalism under deadlines and during critical projects.
Salary:
The annual salary for this position is based on a Grade 23, which has a salary range of $39,421 to $56,689 under the employee/employer paid retirement option. An employer-paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced salary in lieu of an employee contribution. Actual starting salary will be based on experience.
