Position: ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

This position will be full‑time, non‑classified and exempt.

The Office of Entrepreneurship, the first of its kind at a Governor’s office nationwide, connects people, ideas and resources across Nevada. Our goal is to reduce barriers, strengthen programs and identify regional challenges to help more Nevadans start and grow their businesses. The Office is part of the agency’s Innovation‑Based Economic Development (IBED) division. IBED’s mission is to enhance Nevada’s national and global competitiveness in a knowledge‑driven economy through fostering regional entrepreneurial‑driven innovation systems, attracting and growing technology‑based companies in our state.

IBED’s vision is to be the state’s lead entity for supporting the translation of basic research into useful market‑based applications at Nevada’s universities, growing entrepreneurial and startup development, attracting and providing risk capital to startups and early‑stage high‑growth companies, while developing innovative solutions for the recruitment of a workforce into high‑demand occupations within Nevada’s key industry sectors.

This exciting and rewarding position operates at the forefront of Nevada’s startup and entrepreneurial ecosystems and stands to support several key federal and state programs and initiatives. In this role you will be connecting the Office of Entrepreneurship and the Innovation Based Economic Development Division with leading ecosystem stakeholders, such as entrepreneurial support organizations, startups, universities, and more, as well as performing connectivity across the system.

The role also involves enabling and enforcing key initiatives and programs led by the Office and the Division. The Office aims to be a national leader in how states support entrepreneurship by testing new models, piloting solutions and modernizing economic development practices. The goal is for Nevada to serve as a benchmark for other states. The role entails providing connections across the entrepreneurship’s main stakeholders, which includes but is not limited to other state agencies, regional strategic partners, non‑profits, universities, seed‑ and venture investors and funds.

The goal is that each ecosystem is characterized by efficient collective, self‑organizing behavior that leads to economic growth and prosperity. This position will play a vital role in stimulating such activities. A broad array of expertise, cognitive diversity and the ability to operate within multiple programs and initiatives simultaneously is required to achieve the full potential of this role.

  • Aid in building out the innovation cycle continuum that offers entrepreneurs seamless transitioning from one stage to the next in the evolution of building and scaling their business.
  • Assist with technology translation system improvements.

  • Identify obsolete and legacy approaches within entrepreneurial ecosystems and devise new, more effective solutions.
  • Perform measurable new business development functions comprising small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) and innovation‑driven enterprises (IDEs), building a client book and meeting annually defined growth targets.
  • Track and report ecosystem metrics and maintain a CRM system.
  • Facilitate cooperation with GOED’s other agency divisions such as communication, international and business development in support of outreach efforts and event opportunities.
