General Foreman / Safety Lead

The General Foreman / Safety Lead is responsible for overseeing and directing multiple field crews performing process maintenance activities including, but not limited to, conveyor belt installation, vulcanized and mechanical belt splicing, rubber repair, and industrial maintenance support across mining, industrial, oil & gas, and construction environments. This role provides overall field leadership, project coordination, workforce management, and safety oversight while ensuring operational excellence and client satisfaction.

The General Foreman / Safety Lead coordinates daily field operations, manpower allocation, project execution, resource planning, and workforce performance while serving as the primary field liaison between crews, clients, project management, subcontractors, and company leadership.

In addition to operational leadership responsibilities, the General Foreman / Safety Lead serves as the project's designated safety leader and is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a proactive safety culture across all assigned projects. This includes conducting safety audits and inspections, overseeing pre-task planning activities, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, supporting incident investigations, implementing corrective actions, monitoring safety performance, and serving as the primary point of contact for project safety matters.

The General Foreman / Safety Lead works under the direction of the Industrial Services Superintendent and is responsible for balancing operational leadership, workforce development, project execution, client relations, and safety management to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with company and client expectations.

Essential Functions:

• Lead and coordinate multiple field crews performing preventative maintenance tasks, conveyor belt installation, repair, vulcanized and mechanical splicing, pulley lagging, steel lining, and rubber lining.
• Provide overall project leadership and direction to Foremen, Lead Technicians, maintenance personnel, and field crews.
• Plan, organize, and coordinate daily project activities to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules and client expectations.
• Oversee workforce assignments, manpower planning, equipment utilization, and material requirements across assigned projects.
• Monitor project productivity, quality, safety performance, and workforce effectiveness while implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Support and coordinate advanced conveyor maintenance activities including belt tracking, tensioning, alignment corrections, splice fabrication, and component replacement.
• Coordinate emergency repairs, troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, and support timely resolution to minimize operational downtime.
• Review field operations and identify opportunities for operational improvements, increased efficiencies, and enhanced safety performance.
• Serve as the primary field contact for clients, project stakeholders, subcontractors, and company management.
• Ensure compliance with all contract requirements, project specifications, company policies, and client expectations.
• Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific safety plans, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Lead and oversee daily pre-task planning meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), safety briefings, and risk assessments.
• Conduct and document regular safety inspections, audits, observations, and field evaluations of work areas, equipment, tools, and personnel.
• Monitor field operations to ensure employees, subcontractors, and visitors comply with established safety procedures, PPE requirements, and safe work practices.
• Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified and ensure corrective actions are implemented before work resumes.
• Lead investigations involving incidents, near misses, property damage events, environmental releases, and safety observations; document findings and oversee implementation of corrective actions.
• Maintain safety documentation including inspection reports, training records, incident reports, corrective action logs, JHAs, AHAs, site-specific safety requirements, and regulatory compliance records.
• Monitor and evaluate project safety performance metrics, identify trends, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in client safety meetings, project planning meetings, operational reviews, audits, and regulatory inspections as required.
• Support onboarding, site orientations, and safety training for employees, subcontractors, and visitors assigned to project sites.
• Conduct and document weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, and workforce safety training activities.
• Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, DOT, environmental regulations, company policies, and client-specific safety requirements.
