GeneralJob Description
Under the supervision of the School Site Principal in coordination with the Elementary Education Director, the Instructional Coach is responsible for designing, conducting, promoting, and supporting teacher professional growth initiatives. The Instructional Coach will also serve as an expert in high level instructional practices and as a curricular resource within the school across all content areas. They will support teachers and administrators in designing and delivering instruction that is consistently rigorous and strengthens all students’ ability to engage in content as critical thinkers and problem solvers.
In order to be successful in this role, the Instructional Coach will assist classroom teachers in building content and instructional knowledge at the site and district level through continuous professional learning, collaboration, and growth focused on high quality instruction that is aligned with the NVACS (Nevada Academic Content Standards). Finally, the Instructional Coach is expected to coordinate with the ELA Learning Strategist and other site and district level leadership to update and maintain the curriculum, assessment, and mastery data systems, materials adoptions, and other essential district related professional support.
This also includes other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience required.
- District, and campus policies and procedures.
- Training in Cognitive Coaching or other coaching protocol.
- Working knowledge of high quality staff development projects.
- Working knowledge and ability to apply Nevada State Standards for Professional Development.
- Working knowledge of current public education programs and trends.
- Ability to conduct research and gather data about program effectiveness.
- Good reading, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills.
- Ability to utilize database management systems and software systems as part of work in completion of assignments (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Mastery Connect, NWEA-MAP, etc).
The Instructional Coach will guide and support teachers in the form of professional development, coaching, collaboration, and consultation. They must be able to effectively communicate with classroom teachers in a positive manner as they engage in academic conversations regarding lessons and academic content. The Instructional Coach will provide modeling and training to support teachers as they practice stepping into the role of skilled facilitators of learning.
The Instructional Coach will create quarterly reports outlining how their time is spent throughout the quarter and highlight successful practices and effective strategies used by teachers. He or she must be able to develop information loops associated with each project and assist in development and delivery of data verifying success of the staff development initiative. In addition, the Instructional Coach must be able to effectively work with administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals to conduct teacher instructional reflection surveys in which teachers reflect on their instructional practices.
The instructional coach will use this information to target and support teacher’s instructional needs. They will follow the coaching cycle described in the K-5 Coaching Plan as part of this process and assess classroom instruction based on the Rigor, Relevance and Engagement Rubric.
