Job Description
The Learning & Innovation Department is recruiting student employees as Academic Coaches to provide peer‑to‑peer academic support to Western Nevada College students. Coaches accept in‑person or virtual sessions, and assist students across a variety of subjects by strengthening skills, improving study strategies, and building confidence.
Responsibilities- Provide one‑on‑one and small‑group academic coaching sessions.
- Assist students with course content and study strategies.
- Support a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate records of student visits and sessions.
- Participate in required trainings and staff meetings.
- Preferred: B or better grade in the subject(s) to be coached.
- Student Employment Eligibility:
Enrollment in at least 6 credits each regular semester, enrollment in a degree‑seeking program and meeting all Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements (67% completion rate in last enrolled semester, 67% cumulative completion rate, 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, among others). - Authorized to work in the United States.
- Summer eligibility:
Students may work during the summer if enrolled in at least 6 summer credits or met the Spring semester requirements and enrolled in required 6 credits for Fall, while also meeting AAP requirements and authorized to work in the U.S.
- Work‑Study required for all positions.
- Eligibility may change; continued employment is contingent on maintaining eligibility. If eligibility changes, the role may be subject to termination or temporary non‑work.
- No work during scheduled course times.
- No more than 20 hours per week (Sun‑Sat) during academic periods; no more than 28 hours during break periods.
- Student Employee – Level1: $12–$15 per hour.
- Full‑time equivalency: 50% (20hours per week).
- Schedule may vary and is subject to change based on organizational needs.
