English And Literacy Development Teacher
This is a part-time, temporary/seasonal position. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis to establish an applicant pool. As vacancies occur, they are filled from the pool.
This part-time position will teach English and literacy development classes to speakers of other languages for the College and Career Readiness program. Class content may include basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills; career readiness and exploration; contextualized workplace communication; academic language and preparation for college coursework; and study and test-taking skills. Classes do not follow the college semester and are often taught during non-conventional college times or dates.
Instruction includes following and creating curriculum, attending paid professional development opportunities, supporting students in setting and meeting educational goals, administering assessments and tracking attendance data. These positions are available at locations throughout the WNC service area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned courses and be available to students during the contract period.
- Prepare course syllabi, course outlines (if necessary) and related instructional materials.
- Maintain student records, including attendance and grades.
- Administer student evaluations.
- Participate in orientation and faculty meetings as requested.
- Participate in student retention activities as requested.
- Promote college educational programs and services to the communities served by WNC.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the specified discipline or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching college level courses is preferred and specific credentials are beneficial
- Experience with distance education/web teaching modalities is desirable
- Fluency in Spanish or another foreign language is desirable but not required
