The Academic Advisor & Access Coordinator serves as a member of the Academic Advising & Access team and provides holistic, student-centered advising that supports student access, persistence, completion, transfer, and career readiness. The position assists prospective, new, continuing, adult and returning, transfer, and dual enrollment students in navigating educational pathways, making informed decisions, and progressing toward their academic and career goals.

The position supports advising and student access through educational partnerships, outreach and engagement activities, and assigned departmental initiatives. In collaboration with students, faculty, staff, educational partners, and community organizations, the position helps strengthen educational pathways, connect students with appropriate resources, and support student wellness through education, referral, and resource coordination.

As part of these responsibilities, the position may be assigned duties specific to advising and access programs or initiatives and may support designated educational or community partners. Specific program, partnership, and outreach assignments may change as the needs of the Academic Advising & Access department evolve.

Ability to travel to assigned locations and work occasional evenings and weekends are required for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Academic Advising

• Provide academic advising to students across varied educational stages and pathways, including prospective, new, continuing, adult and returning, transfer, and dual enrollment students, through individual appointments, group advising, workshops, presentations, and other service delivery methods
• Apply a holistic advising approach that considers each student’s individual circumstances, experiences, strengths, needs, and goals and draws upon broad institutional knowledge to support educational success
• Assist students in developing educational plans aligned with certificate, degree, transfer, workforce, and career goals while promoting informed decision‑making, self‑advocacy, and responsibility for educational progress
• Explain college policies, procedures, academic and graduation requirements, transfer pathways, and institutional processes to help students make informed educational decisions
• Utilize student information systems, degree planning tools, and other technologies to document advising interactions, monitor academic progress, identify barriers, and provide proactive support and follow‑up
• Support students experiencing academic or related challenges within the scope of the advising role and connect them with appropriate college and community resources, including academic support, financial resources, accessibility services, and mental health and wellness services
• Maintain accurate and timely advising records and documentation in accordance with institutional policies and applicable privacy regulations

Partnerships & Outreach

• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with assigned high schools, community partners, and college departments to strengthen pathways to higher education and support student access
• Serve in assigned advising partnership roles, coordinating communication, advising services, outreach activities, and continuity of support for the designated student populations
