CDM Smith is actively seeking talented Engineers to contribute to exciting Federal Construction Projects in collaboration with agencies such as USACE, AFCEC, and NAVFAC. This is a pipeline requisition aimed at identifying qualified candidates for future opportunities.
The Engineering Specialist will utilize extensive knowledge of engineering principles to address sophisticated technical challenges and ensure adherence to federal construction standards, tailored to meet specific client requirements. You'll be working independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative, solid engineering judgment, and exceptional communication skills to engage effectively with contractors, government clients, and diverse project teams.
Job Duties- Act as the technical liaison among federal government clients, design branches, construction branches, and contractors.
- Review design submittals, shop drawings, specifications, RFIs, and technical reports for compliance with federal standards and client expectations.
- Apply engineering principles and relevant codes across various phases such as planning, designing, construction administration, and assessment of engineering processes.
- Monitor project progress while preparing detailed technical and status reports.
- Provide engineering judgment for field modifications, non-conformance issues, value engineering proposals, and constructability reviews.
- Ensure compliance with guidelines and regulations, delivering necessary technical documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and analytical support in coordination with government estimators and contracting officers.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings, progress reviews, and project closeout activities.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews to validate compliance with contract requirements.
- Mentor and guide junior engineering staff, promoting best practices within the team.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and technical support.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Willingness to travel domestically and potentially overseas.
- PE (Professional Engineer) License or RA (Registered Architect) is highly desirable.
- Certification in Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety training.
- Experience with federal or DoD projects (NAVFAC, USACE, or Air Force CE) is highly beneficial.
- Experience in both vertical construction (buildings/facilities) and horizontal projects (utilities, transportation, airfields).
- Proficient in interpreting design documents and specifications.
- Experience with project scheduling tools like Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
- Strong understanding of federal contracting standards (FAR/DFARS) and government design/construction processes.
