The Carson City Fire Department has ONE (1) current vacancy for either a Fire Prevention Inspector 1 or 2, depending on the qualifications of the selected individual. Under general supervision of the Fire Prevention Battalion Chief, performs a variety of routine fire prevention and inspection work, including fire code enforcement and fire safety education program administration.
NOTE: Applicants must submit to a pre-placement physical to be administered by the Carson City Fire Department.

Responsibilities- Develop and deliver fire safety and prevention educational programs to local schools, community groups, and members of the general public.
- Conduct routine inspections of buildings and property for fire hazards, efficiency of fire protective equipment, adequacy of fire exits and general compliance with fire prevention laws and standards.
- Advise property owners on the removal of fire hazards and enforce compliance to correct hazards.
- Receive and investigate complaints regarding fire violations and recommend corrective actions.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Maintain a variety of records, files and maps related to fire prevention and safety activities and programs.
- Enter a variety of information into a computer terminal.
- Conduct inspections for business license compliance.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or completion of a GED supplemented by specialized training in fire science, fire prevention, investigation, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. One year experience in non‑sworn education, prevention, and inspection work is desirable.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Possession of a current certification in CPR within 3 months of hire.
- Possession of a current ICC Fire Inspector 1 certification or Nevada State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector certification is preferred.
Knowledge of:
- Basic fire hazards, related prevention and abatement methods.
- Principles of fire prevention and safety education.
- Codes, laws, policies and procedures relating to fire prevention.
- Safe work practices and procedures.
- Public relations as they relate to obtaining cooperation and compliance to fire codes and laws.
