Position: DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL - GOVERNMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION - UNCLASSIFIED

Job Overview

Exempt (FLSA); unclassified position entitled to standard state benefits; serves at the will of the Attorney General. Employment contingent upon successful background check.

Responsibilities
  • Represent multiple agencies of the State of Nevada, including the Department of Education, the State Board of Education, the Unclaimed Property Division, and the Governor’s Office of Science, Information and Technology.
  • Handle litigation in both federal and state courts.
  • Engage in statutory interpretation and provide legal advice on matters relevant to the agencies, including the Nevada Administrative Procedure Act, Public Records Act, and the Nevada Open Meeting Law.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited law school and license to practice in Nevada or eligibility for limited practice certification.
  • Valid state driver’s license at time of appointment.
  • Strong communication skills, planning, prioritizing, and ability to execute timelines without supervision.
  • Professionalism, organization, self‑motivation, and leadership skills.
  • Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and travel.
  • Ability to read printed materials and computer screens, hear and speak to communicate in person, virtually, and over the telephone; to speak clearly and understandably.
  • Reasonable accommodation available for some physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals upon request.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent litigation experience and/or government service experience.
  • Working knowledge of rules of civil and appellate procedure, evidence, and local court rules.
