Public Hearings Officer

The Nevada Department of Transportation is hiring for a Public Hearings Officer in Carson City, NV. The Public Involvement Specialist/Hearings Officer is a highly visible position focused on compliance with public meeting laws, public engagement, mass communications and executive communications support. This position involves travel within the State of Nevada up to 25 percent of the time, primarily to attend or host public hearings and other public meetings.

The Public Involvement Specialist ensures noticing requirements are met, requiring utilizing website CMS. The incumbent will provide mass communications and executive communications support to include, but not limited to: speech writing, producing presentations, assisting in planning events, taking photos, writing reports, writing talking points and related tasks. The position involves public speaking and engaging with the public and elected officials.

The Public Involvement Specialist is responsible for setting benchmarks and monitoring results for public engagement.

The Public Hearings Officer (aka Public Involvement Specialist) is responsible for noticing, managing and executing public hearings and meetings. This is a highly responsible position that ensures compliance with all applicable statutes and regulations. The incumbent performs general communications duties in addition to executing public hearings. The Public Hearings Officer produces presentations, speeches and social media posts. The position requires organizing meetings and events.

Essential

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, economics, political science, public relations, engineering, communications, journalism, law, closely related field or equivalency and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience acting as a liaison with one (1) or more of the following groups: legislators; federal, state and local government officials; or public, entities, citizen groups, or the media;

for the purpose of providing information to the general public.

Job Duties

The Public Hearings Officer develops public notices, organizes meetings and speaks publicly. The Hearings Officer also creates presentations, updates websites, writes speeches, creates social media content, interacts with members of the public.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent written and verbal skills, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office, strong organizational skills, ability to work independently or in a team setting, attention to detail, time management ability, ability to travel within the State of Nevada, emotional intelligence.
