Overview
The Division of Social Services is filling vacancies for Family Services Specialist 1 in the Child Care and Development Unit in Carson City. The position determines eligibility for the Child Care Subsidy program and explains eligibility, elicits information, researches and verifies information provided by customers by contacting landlords, employers, and others to confirm citizenship, residency, household composition, earnings, and projected household expenses.
The role computes income and evaluates factors impacting benefits and makes determinations according to time frames and program regulations.
- One or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties and graduation from high school or equivalent education.
- Assist clients in completing required applications, declarations, forms, and reviewing information for accuracy and consistency; confer with others as needed.
- Interview clients, explain conditions, and elicit information.
- Interview clients to assess vocational potential and available employment options.
- Research, verify, and evaluate information to establish eligibility.
- Perform income computation and assess other factors impacting the level of benefits.
- Identify existing job skills, work experience, and immediate employment barriers.
- Explain program objectives, requirements, and services; respond to client questions.
- Develop a personal responsibility plan and design an individualized job training plan.
- Coordinate services through community providers and other agency personnel.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the functions and operations of an administrative office, recordkeeping, interviewing practices, social service programs and their purpose, privacy and confidentiality of information.
- Mathematical computations; interpersonal and written/verbal communication; use and operation of office and job-related equipment and software.
- Ability to read and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; learn federal, state, and local resources serving the needs of applicants; maintain confidentiality of client records; receive inquiries and provide information; verify information from various sources; compile information and prepare reports; store, record, and retrieve information; establish and maintain accurate records; interact effectively with individuals from varying backgrounds.

Voluntary Deferred Compensation Program. - No Nevada state income tax.
- Public Service Loan Forgiveness:
Eligible due to public sector employment. - Longevity Payments:
Eligibility after eight or more years of continuous service with a standard rating or better.
