Profee Coder Surgical Oncology

We are looking for an experienced Surgical Oncology Physician Coder to code a wide variety of accounts. The position supports busy providers/surgeons and focuses heavily on E/M coding. The role is fully remote and available only to candidates residing in the following states: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, , IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI & WY.

Evaluates medical records, provides clinical and surgical abstraction, and assigns appropriate clinical diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with nationally recognized coding guidelines.

• Analyzes medical information from records; accurately codes diagnostic and procedural information using national coding guidelines and reimbursement requirements. Consults with providers to clarify missing or inadequate record information.
• Provides thorough, timely and accurate coding in accordance with department productivity and quality standards. Codes ICD‑CM and CPT‑4 for accurate APC assignment. Addresses NCCI edits as appropriate.
• Abstracts clinical diagnoses, procedure codes and documents other pertinent information obtained from medical records into the electronic medical record. Seeks out missing information and creates complete records.
• Provides quality assurance for medical records to ensure compliance with coding rules and regulations for state Medicaid plans, CMS, OIG and HCFA.
• Compiles daily and monthly reports and tabulates data from medical records for research or analysis purposes.
• Works independently under regular supervision while using specialized knowledge for accurate assignment of ICD/CPT codes.

• High‑school diploma, GED, or equivalent with specialized formal training equivalent to the two‑year certification course in medical record keeping principles and practices, anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology, standard nomenclature, and classification of diagnoses and operations, or an Associate’s degree in a related health‑care field.
• At least one of the following certifications in an active status and with the AAPC or AHIMA:
  Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS‑P), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Professional Coder – Apprentice (CPC‑A), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
• Six months of professional coding services or related health‑care experience within a broad range of health‑care facilities.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ICD and CPT coding principles as recommended by the American Health Information Management Association coding competencies.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a remote setting, utilizing common office programs, coding software and abstracting systems.

• Specialty certification in surgical oncology or related area.
• Additional related education and/or experience.

Estimated Pay Range: $23.16 – $34.74 / hour, based on location, education, and experience. In accordance with State Pay Transparency Rules.
