The Department of Public Safety is recruiting for a NCJIS Specialist Trainee in Carson City. The Records, Communications and Compliance Division, NCJIS Compliance Unit, NCJIS Program Specialists perform a variety of critical tasks within the NCJIS Service Desk to support the Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS), ensuring effective and efficient operations while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
Under direction, incumbents provide technical support for Nevada's civil partners and internal customers, assisting them in gaining and maintaining access to the new Nevada Civil & Criminal Information System (NCCIS). Responsibilities include call-taking functions, account unlocks, troubleshooting user access, system research, managing data entry updates, responding to emails, assisting with training activities, and other related tasks. Specialists are responsible for providing timely and accurate support to allied agencies, internal customers, and members of the public while upholding strict compliance with laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
Reporting to the NCJIS Service Desk Supervisor, this position provides vital support to the organization's mission by maintaining the integrity of the criminal justice information system. Responsibilities include documenting incidents in Service Now, tracking progress and updates using Smartsheet, troubleshooting system issues, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to Federal and State requirements. Work Schedule The work schedule is currently Sunday through Thursday with shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., depending on office needs.
Additionally, this position requires the ability to work on all state holidays and weekends. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Provide technical support to civil/CJ partners and internal customers for account unlocks, system research, and troubleshooting related to NCCIS access and functionality.
• Train civil or CJ partners on how to navigate and effectively use the NCCIS system.
• Utilize the Service Now ticket system to log, manage, and resolve incidents or requests.
• Track ticket statuses and ensure timely updates using Smartsheet.
• Respond to calls and emails promptly and professionally, including during weekends and holidays as part of the work schedule.
• Maintain accurate documentation in incident tracking systems.
• Conduct data entry updates and manage system configurations as needed.
• Assist civil partners and internal customers in understanding and adhering to access protocols for NCCIS.
• Support training activities, including assisting in training sessions and ensuring proper record-keeping.
• Maintain compliance with Federal, State, and departmental standards, including confidentiality and security protocols.
• Analyze and resolve system-related issues or escalate them to appropriate teams. Applicants must demonstrate:

• Flexibility to work one weekend day per week and most holidays, as required.
• A willingness to learn, adapt, and maintain technical knowledge in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a helpdesk or service desk environment.
• Familiarity with NCIC, NCJIS, or similar criminal justice systems.
• Prior experience in troubleshooting technical systems or applications.
• Knowledge of Smartsheet for project or task tracking.
