Project Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced ADA Accessibility Specialist to support a high-priority initiative to make all publicly available forms, PDFs, and digital documents accessible and compliant with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
The client currently maintains more than 800 forms and documents that require accessibility review and remediation before the federal compliance. The selected candidate will join an active project team consisting of a Project Manager, Administrative Support Staff, and a website accessibility contractor.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in improving access to public services while helping establish sustainable accessibility practices across the organization.
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience remediating PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents for accessibility compliance.
* Strong knowledge of ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
* Experience using accessibility testing and remediation tools.
* Ability to independently review, prioritize, and remediate large volumes of documents.
* Experience creating accessible forms and templates compatible with assistive technologies and screen readers.
* Experience developing and delivering accessibility training to staff.
* Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
* Ability to begin contributing immediately in a fast-paced project environment.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience supporting accessibility initiatives for a government agency or large public-sector organization.
* Experience with large-scale document remediation projects involving hundreds of forms and documents.
* Experience serving as an Accessibility Subject Matter Expert (SME).
* Experience developing accessibility standards, templates, governance processes, and quality control procedures.
* Familiarity with website accessibility requirements and content management systems.
* Experience building internal accessibility capabilities through training and knowledge transfer.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and remediate forms, PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and other digital content.
* Ensure documents meet ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements.
* Conduct accessibility testing, validation, and quality assurance reviews.
* Create and maintain accessible document templates and standards.
* Collaborate with project teams and website accessibility resources to support organization-wide compliance efforts.
* Provide recommendations on accessibility best practices and document design standards.
* Train staff on document accessibility requirements and remediation techniques.
* Develop procedures, job aids, and supporting documentation to promote long-term sustainability.
* Serve as the organization's accessibility resource and subject matter expert for forms and document compliance.
What Success Looks Like
* Accessibility remediation completed in support of the April 26, 2027 compliance deadline.
* Accessible templates, standards, and processes established for ongoing use.
* Staff trained and equipped to maintain accessibility compliance after project completion.
* Improved public access to forms, documents, and services.
* Sustainable accessibility practices implemented across the organization.
