Job Summary

This is an IT Technician 3 position located in our Carson City within our Information Technology division as a Computer Help Desk Technician. The incumbent provides timely resolution to users with various IT issues. These issues may include user account issues in various applications, networking, systems, various software installations, local machine hardware, and will utilize our ITSM system to track and assign work to various groups.

The incumbent accomplishes this utilizing a variety of means such as, over the phone, email, chat, and occasionally in person. The user base includes all of the Nevada DMV Northern and Southern regional offices, along with other various county, state, and AAA offices. The position requires the incumbent perform software support and maintenance, and is responsible for creating, maintaining, and terminating user accounts in various systems including but not limited to, Active Directory, DMV application, Cisco Systems DUO dual authentication, and administering our CCURE security card key program.

This job requires a work shift of Monday 9-6 and Tuesday - Friday 8 - 5. There is some early morning, late night, and weekend overtime required from time to time. This position requires knowledge of Active Directory.

Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are currently unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa.

Overview

Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations. Incumbents may perform duties associated with one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.

Essential Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, two years of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Job Duties
  • Participate in the development and revision of policies and procedures related to a functional area; review policies and procedures for changes applicable to IT; maintain operations, tasks, security, and/or functional area logs; review instructions from other IT staff and correct or return for revisions as necessary.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Under limited supervision, incumbents may serve as a lead worker to lower level IT Technicians. Typical tasks include performing routine maintenance and identifying backup media problems. This is the journey level in a large department.

Help Desk Support
  • Detailed knowledge of: computer hardware, software, peripherals, and current computer technology and trends; help desk applications as used for change/problem management.
  • Working knowledge of: commercially available operating systems and applications used by the agency; principles and practices of a computer system and peripheral devices as needed to operate and monitor a system; user password security principles and practices.
  • General knowledge of: database principles; network domains and login procedures; web browser capabilities and the difference between intranets and the Internet.
