Material Handler
Schedule: Monday - Friday 7am - 4pm
PURPOSE:The Shipping & Receiving Clerk supports PCC Carson City's manufacturing and logistics operations by coordinating the accurate shipment, receipt, tracking, and movement of aerospace castings, materials, supplies, and related documentation. This role ensures products are packaged, documented, labeled, and shipped in compliance with customer requirements, export regulations, and company procedures. This position plays a critical role in maintaining inventory accuracy, supporting on‑time delivery performance, and ensuring traceability throughout the shipping and receiving process.
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk regularly interacts with Production, Quality, Purchasing, carriers, and customer representatives to support efficient material flow and shipment execution.
Shipping & Logistics Coordination
- Verify completed shipments for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation prior to shipment.
- Prepare shipping documentation including packing slips, labels, certifications, freight paperwork, and related records.
- Weigh shipments, calculate shipping charges, and coordinate transportation methods based on business needs and cost considerations.
- Coordinate carrier pickups and maintain communication regarding shipment status and delivery timelines.
- Trace shipments and provide shipment support to internal and external customers as needed.
- Receive incoming materials, supplies, tooling, and production‑related items in accordance with established procedures.
- Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation.
- Identify and report shortages, damages, or discrepancies and complete required documentation.
- Assist with unloading, transporting, and staging materials to designated departments or storage locations.
- Maintain understanding of HAZCOM labeling requirements and hazardous material shipping documentation.
- Read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS) and shipping instructions.
- Ensure compliance with ITAR, export, and shipping regulations as applicable.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas (6S).
- Follow all plant and department safety procedures.
- Maintain inventory of shipping supplies, packaging materials, boxes, and related consumables.
- May pick up or deliver materials, products, or mail using company vehicles as required.
- Detect and report unusual conditions, documentation errors, or process concerns.
- Support month‑end shipping activity and overtime requirements as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support department and business objectives.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, and move throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift and maneuver up to 35 pounds independently; heavier items require assistance or lifting devices.
- Ability to safely handle packages, containers, and shipping materials throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working in manufacturing, warehouse, and shipping dock environments with exposure to noise, forklifts, and moving equipment.
- Continuous visual attention required for documentation accuracy, labeling, and shipment verification.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license.
- Ability to work indoors in warehouses and outdoors in yard environments in varying weather conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in shipping, receiving, logistics, warehouse, or manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing, traceability requirements, and inventory control.
- Basic understanding of export compliance and ITAR requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer‑based inventory or ERP systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
