This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position with Carson City Health & Human Services located in Carson City, NV. Independently performs full range maintenance and inspection duties for the elimination of disease carrying insects throughout Carson City. This is a seasonal position with an expected duration from March to October of each year.

  • Identifies and inspects areas prone to mosquito infestations; collects, packs, and sends appropriate samples for testing when necessary and analyzes mosquito types.
  • Maintains records of applied pesticides and treated vector infestations.
  • Operates a variety of vehicles and power equipment such as four-wheel drive vehicles, 4-wheel all-terrain vehicles, vector control backpack, vector fogger, and a variety of vehicle trailers and hand-held power equipment.
  • Uses insecticides in safe and proper manner.
  • Works with Division Manager to ensure product is ordered and received.
  • May operate adulticide equipment between dusk or dawn as directed.
  • Provides informational trainings to the community regarding mosquito abatement and attends carious public outreach events as needed.
  • Works with Environmental Health Staff to ensure proper knowledge of mosquito abatement.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED; AND one (1) year of experience in vector control, extermination, pest control OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:

All required licenses and certificates must be maintained in active status without suspension or revocation throughout employment.

  • Valid driver's license.
  • State of Nevada, Department of Agriculture Applicator Certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of vector control, including biological methods, the use of pesticides, and the operation of tools and equipment.
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations relevant to the use of pesticides.
  • Mosquito habitats, and life cycles.
  • Calibrate spray equipment, mix chemicals, and operate manual and power spray equipment.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of pesticide application equipment, power equipment, and vehicles.
  • Educate and instruct the public in proper vector infestation prevention techniques.
  • Safety procedures and methods related to the work.
  • Basic recordkeeping principles and practices; maintain accurate records and files.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Computer applications (e.g., Microsoft software packages) to conduct, compile, and/or generate documentation.
