The Animal Behavior Trainer at Pet Smart is responsible for fostering positive experiences for pets and their owners while adhering to our organization’s vision and values. You will actively engage with pet parents, educating them on the benefits of pet training and delivering exceptional training services following Pet Smart’s established curriculum.
Key Responsibilities- Enhance the pet parent experience through effective communication via telephone, in person, or online.
- Proactively promote and sell training classes both in‑store and online.
- Provide education on our complete pet training curriculum and its benefits.
- Maintain accurate records related to pet training services.
- Act as a training resource for fellow associates, sharing expertise on the advantages of pet training.
- Organize training class schedules to meet company standards.
- Create and uphold a safe environment for both pets and their owners in training classes.
- Ensure cleanliness and order in the training area and surrounding store spaces.
- Acknowledge and celebrate team contributions to pet training sales.
- Take action immediately for any sick or injured pet encountered in‑store, including coordinating veterinary transport if necessary.
- Advise and sell relevant merchandise and services.
- Assist in other departments as needed, with additional duties as assigned.
- Engage in our culture promoting Diversity and Recognition.
- Adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures.
- 1–2 years of experience in a customer‑centric retail environment.
- Certification in Pet Smart Training Instructor Course.
- Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Strong organizational abilities and keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
This role involves standing, walking, climbing, and using hands for various tasks. The associate may need to lift or move up to 50 pounds frequently and team lift or move over 100 pounds occasionally. The environment may include exposure to mechanical parts, wet conditions, moderate noise levels, and live animals.
