Roleoptions
- Deputy Sheriff I: Entry-level with no/minimal prior law enforcement experience and training. $32.14 per hour. The job description for the Deputy Sheriff I can be found here. Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the position are outlined in this job posting.
- Deputy Sheriff II: Candidates who hold a current Nevada POST Category I Certificate (or a reciprocal certificate from another state). A certificate MUST BE ATTACHED to this application for consideration. The job description and salary range for Deputy Sheriff II can be found here. Deputy Sheriff II minimum salary is $35.95; however, the starting salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience.

Testing InformationCompleted applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to schedule their exam. The exam consists of a physical agility assessment, written general aptitude test, and an oral board interview process. The testing process is scheduled as an all-day event. Candidates passing the physical agility test will continue on to the written exam and oral board interview.
Applicants must successfully complete each of the three phases to be eligible for employment.
The physical agility test will be held at the Douglas County High School football field. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has adopted similar physical fitness standards and all applicants seeking employment with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department must successfully complete the following physical fitness standards. These standards are the same for all applicants, regardless of age or gender.
- 14 inch vertical jump
- 30 sit‑ups (60 seconds)
- 23 push‑ups (no time limit)
- 300 meter run (68 seconds)
- Illinois Agility Run (19.5 seconds)
- 1.5 mile run/walk (16:57)
The written exam and oral board process will be held at the Law Enforcement Center 1038 Buckeye Rd. Minden, NV 89423. Candidates must successfully pass the physical agility test to proceed to the written exam and/or oral board interview.
For lateral Deputy Sheriff II:
The written test will be waived for any applicant with a current Nevada Category I POST Certificate. The written test may also be waived for applicants with a valid and current Category I POST Certificate from any state with recognized reciprocity. Please attach your POST Certificate to your application. Application may not qualify for lateral consideration if required valid and current POST Certificate is not attached.
Preparation Manual
