Position: ELECTRICIAN 2

Job Summary

This position is located at Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City. The Electrician 2 will perform routine electrical repairs, including, but not limited to, low and high voltage replacement of control components, switches, outlets and other electrical fixtures; lighting repair; control systems repair and diagnostics; cable testing and replacement; conduit installation and repair; and other electrical system diagnostics and repairs.

The role may function as a lead worker for an inmate crew, requiring completion of performance reports and accountability for security procedures, assigned inmates, staff, tools and equipment. Experience in a correctional setting is preferred but not required.

Typical work schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (subject to change). Extended hours may be required on short notice in emergencies.

Essential Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level electrician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Duties
  • Respond to repair orders; establish repair priorities; diagnose problems using appropriate tools and test equipment; estimate cost; acquire materials; make repairs; document time and material costs for billing.
  • Implement a preventive maintenance schedule; perform routine inspections, cleaning, servicing, and minor repairs to prevent malfunction and prolong equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair circuit breakers, transformers, emergency generators, high‑voltage primary power lines, HVAC systems, fire alarm systems, electric motors, and lighting.
  • Install or remove wiring, computer cables, power panels, circuit breakers, lighting, switches, and receptacles per code; study blueprints and schematics; calculate electrical load; design new circuits; update blueprints; inspect systems for code compliance.
  • Provide training, direction and review to maintenance staff, students and others.
  • Assist contractors by providing information on existing structures and equipment; review bids and completed work for quality and compliance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Depending on supervision level, lead lower‑level electricians or inmate crew, assign and review work, provide input to performance evaluations, document inmate performance, and implement security procedures to secure work area from unauthorized inmates and maintain accountability for tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to set priorities of job assignments; prepare documentation of work performed; coordinate work of others on large projects.

Skill in troubleshooting and repairing electro‑mechanical and electro‑magnetic locks and gates.
