Medium Voltage Electrician, Facilities

Redwood Materials is looking for a motivated and accomplished Journeyman Electrician to join the facilities operations team to work in all areas of industrial electrical maintenance and operations. This will include our substation and medium voltage distribution system. Skills in all areas of electrical are not necessarily required, but the job can and will involve a variety of electrical sub‑disciplines and a strong candidate will be able to perform a variety of electrical tasks from substation maintenance and operation, power distribution switching, lighting and control panel upgrades to low voltage controls troubleshooting and repair.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working as a team member with the entire facilities organization, as well as all other organizations within Redwood Materials.
  • Operating various MV (up to 34.5kV) substation apparatus and distribution equipment.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting various types of electrical systems, equipment, and components.
  • Reading and understanding electrical schematics and blueprints in order to maintain, operate, and repair electrical systems of varying power levels.
  • Consulting manuals, reading and interpreting diagrams, P&IDs, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Performing a wide variety of job scopes.
  • Displaying a positive attitude and practicing good work ethic that reflects the mission, philosophy, and goals of the company.
  • Completing tasks in a timely manner and providing feedback to internal teams.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years of Electrician journeyman level or higher experience in industrial or commercial settings.
  • Completion of Substation Maintenance I training (as per AVO Training Institute or equivalent).
  • Completion of Substation Maintenance II training (as per AVO Training Institute or equivalent).
  • Knowledge in using hand tools, electrical meters, and other test equipment.
  • Efficient in sizing conductors, conduits and using NEC Code Book.
  • Experienced in handling low voltage up to 480 VAC.
  • Experienced in operating medium voltage up to 34.5 kV.
  • Knowledge in installing and troubleshooting PLCs, motor controls, drives, and electronic components a plus.
  • Ability to interpret electrical prints and schematics.
  • Ability to install electrical equipment and circuit modification.
  • Ability to produce parts lists and work plans based off drawings or field walks and routing.
  • Ability to produce as‑built drawing for work performed.
  • Ability to complete job scopes outside of normal core competencies as required.
  • Strong working knowledge of job site safety with the ability to thoroughly evaluate job hazards and complete pre‑work task planning with an emphasis on identifying electrical hazards and proper safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in high elevation up to 60 ft. high.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with all levels of management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, lift, and carry objects over 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs carrying weight.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment, such as office or outdoors and inclement weather conditions.
  • Exposures encountered, such as hazardous materials, loud noise, fires, or extreme heat/cold.

Required to work weekends, nights, or be on‑call as an occasional part of the job.

The position is full‑time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
