Job Description
The County of Riverside is seeking a Communications Technical Support professional to install, modify, test, and repair telephone service on digital switches, terminal adapter units, and other telephony and data communications equipment. The role includes pulling voice and data cables, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning equipment and devices, and working on mission‑critical systems as part of a rotating standby duty schedule.
Minimum Qualifications- Minimum of five years of experience in the communications field.
- Three years installing and maintaining telephone equipment and/or telecommunications CAT5 or CAT6 wiring.
- Two years experience with telephone key systems.
- Two years experience with PBX systems that support greater than 500 lines.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs, climb and work on 12‑ft ladders, and perform physical activities associated with the installation of telecommunications wiring and equipment.
- Primary responsibility for maintenance and repair of equipment, including analysis and definition of malfunctions.
- Familiarity with wiring codes and standards for both copper and fiber‑optic cable.
- Knowledge of ancillary equipment interfacing with Ericsson PBX systems (e.g., Auto Attendants, Automated Call Distribution, Voice Mail Systems, Call Center Managers).
- Knowledge of a variety of data wiring schemes.
- Ericsson Installation and Maintenance Technician Certifications, BICSI Installer or Technician certification.
- Knowledge of Windows 2000, Windows NT, Microsoft Office 2000/97/XP, Remedy, Procomm, or equivalent software.
- Familiarity with AVAYA, Nortel, or Ericsson PBX equipment.
- Typing speed of 20 words per minute.
- Knowledge of basic electricity and battery plants.
- Familiarity with ANSI EIA/TIA standards and BICSI installation practices.
- Familiarity with NEC codes.
