Social Worker, Family Advocacy & Support Services

Overview

DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES is recruiting for a Social Worker III position in the Carson City Child Welfare office. The role works independently to provide child welfare services to children and families, including assessment and management of ongoing safety threats, delivery of strength-based, family‑centered case‑management and permanency services, and ensuring children’s medical, mental health, and educational needs are met.

• Assess, manage, and monitor safety threats throughout the life of the case.
• Develop and review Case Plans in accordance with policy and practice guidelines.
• Document assessments, CFTs, monthly caseworker visits, court reports, social summaries, diligent search efforts, TPR packets, and other pertinent paperwork.
• Ensure case activities are documented, and written case histories are maintained.
• Provide crisis intervention in the office or community setting, including responding to emergency calls and reporting instances of neglect or abuse.
• Coordinate a network of services and resources from state agencies, community organizations, and private providers in areas such as mental health, substance abuse, rehabilitation, and employment programs.
• Organize multidisciplinary team meetings to assist in strategic assessment and planning of protective services.
• Maintain and oversee private and public provider services and supervise non‑professional staff such as Family Support Workers and Administrative Assistants.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

• Working knowledge of federal regulations, state laws applicable to child or vulnerable adult welfare, and related court procedures.
• Understanding of indicators of abuse, neglect, and exploitation in children and vulnerable adults.
• Familiarity with court procedures related to removal of parental rights, guardianship, adoption, and guardianship referrals.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and substance abuse recovery practices.
• General knowledge of collaborative case planning, medical and pharmaceutical terminology, aging process characteristics, and court processes.

• Respond to emergency calls after normal working hours and conduct safety and risk assessments.
• Exercise authority to remove children from homes or relocate vulnerable adults when at risk of serious harm.
• Prepare and present court reports, petitions, and testimony.
• Investigate complaints of abuse, neglect, and exploitation and coordinate with law enforcement.
• Negotiate, persuade, counsel, and collaborate with other agencies to determine case plans and enforce compliance.
• Develop and present training programs for clients, and supervise related staff.

• A current Nevada Social Work license is required.
• One year of professional experience providing case management in child protective services, foster care services, and/or adoption services in a social work setting equivalent to a Social Worker I in Nevada State service.
• Licensure or provisional licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Independent Social Worker or Associate in Social Work.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship).
