Job Summary
DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES is recruiting for a Social Worker 1 to fill a vacant Social Worker 3 position in the Carson City Child Welfare office. The role works independently to provide child welfare services to children and families, including assessment, safety management, family‑centered case management, and permanency planning. The incumbent ensures children’s medical, mental health, and educational needs are met, develops and reviews case plans, documents assessments, and maintains all required paperwork.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and manage ongoing safety threats throughout the life of each case.
- Deliver strength‑based, family‑centered case management and permanency services that promote the safety, well‑being, and permanency of children.
- Ensure children’s medical, mental health, and educational needs are met.
- Develop and review case plans in accordance with policy and practice guidelines.
- Document assessments, CFTs, monthly visits, court reports, social summaries, diligent search efforts, TPR packets, and other pertinent paperwork.
- Conduct home visits, monitor the delivery of services, and assess client needs and progress.
- Collaborate with families, attorneys, and multiple agencies to coordinate service delivery and prevent duplication.
- Organize multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to plan protective services and program implementation.
- Maintain written case histories and prepare correspondence and case reports as required.
- Provide crisis intervention, respond to emergency calls, and report neglect or abuse to appropriate authorities.
- Provide technical assistance, training, or guidance to newer staff and supervise non‑professional staff such as Family Support Workers and Administrative Assistants.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- A current Nevada Social Work license is required.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.; the agency does not sponsor work visas.
- Proficiency in documenting case work and using case management software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
- Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
- Proficiency in computer use for data entry, storage, and retrieval.
- Social problems requiring public and private community resources.
- Philosophy of social work and social work ethics.
- Dynamics of human behavior, interpersonal relationships, and social interaction.
- Confidentiality laws, client rights, and case management practices.
- Signs of substance abuse, mental illness, and domestic violence.
- Understand and accept differences in human behavior caused by deprivation, abuse, and neglect.
- Interact effectively with persons from diverse economic, cultural, social, and educational backgrounds.
- Work objectively with individuals who may be hostile, uncooperative, or verbally abusive.
- Recognize and report signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and compose grammatically correct correspondence and reports.
- Read and understand technical and legal documents, and interpret program regulations and policies.
- Read and interpret data, assemble, analyze, and report findings.
- Organize and prioritize work, participate as a team member, and work independently with minimal direction.
- Transport clients to identified services as required.
Under close supervision, incumbents at this level function in a trainee capacity, learning to determine client needs, develop appropriate solutions and case plans, and provide ongoing case management services. Progression to the next level may occur upon meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and a recommendation from the appointing authority.
